Can the Baby with Nephrotic Syndrome Eat Cheese

Nephrotic Syndrome is a group of clinical syndromes like massive proteinuria, edema, hypoproteinemia and hyperlipidemia, which commonly attack children and teenagers. In order to control these conditions, most parents are suggested to have balanced diet plan for their children. Well then, can the baby with nephrotic syndrome eat cheese?

Cheese is a kind of dairy product that is mainly through the fermentation. It still retains enough moisture to make it soft and spreadable.  Cheese contains a variety of nutritions such as protein, fat, calcium, sodium, phosphorus, potassium, etc.

Can patients with NS (nephrotic syndrome) eat cheese?

For children, offering the enough intake of protein is very important for their physical condition. To supplement the protein, vegetables protein is not good. Animal protein are recommended to increase children immunity. However, it is not recommended to eat more cheese, which may increase patients’ renal burden or even aggravate their kidney disease.

For people with kidney disease, part or nearly all of kidney function has lost so that their kidney can’t do its job optimally. Then, high blood pressure, proteinuria, high potassium level, high cholesterol level, swelling and many other symptoms occur easily. If left uncontrolled, they can cause further kidney damage. In the case, eating too much cheese may woesen these symptoms.

For patients with Nephrotic Syndrome, keeping a healthy diet plays a very important role in controlling and relieving patients disease condition. A low intake of fat,water,salt and high quality of protein is beneficial for their impaired kidneys.
