Clinical manifestations of diabetic nephropathy

1 proteinuria

Diabetic nephropathy glomerular basement membrane thickening, but the structure of the basement membrane defects, so an increase in plasma protein leakage, resulting in proteinuria.

2 edema

Early in general no edema, a few patients before lowering plasma protein, may have mild edema, diabetic neuropathy, which may make vasomotor dysfunction.

3 hypertension

Hypertension is an early manifestation of diabetic nephropathy. In particular type Ⅰ diabetes, high blood pressure should consider the possibility of kidney involvement.

4 anemia


Diabetic patients with significant azotemia, may have mild to moderate anemia with iron therapy.

5 renal insufficiency

Late appear. From the appearance of proteinuria to deterioration of renal function, the time interval varies greatly, up to 18 years.
